A late arrival changes the practical value of a cheap flight. The last train, the hotel’s check-in desk and a tired travel companion matter more than the timetable alone. Plan the final hour of the journey before you pay for the flight.

Check the final leg first

Find the airport’s official transport page and your accommodation’s exact address. Compare the last scheduled public transport with your flight’s scheduled arrival, allowing for baggage collection and the walk to the stop. Timetables can change, so recheck close to travel. If the connection is tight, identify a licensed taxi or prebooked transfer option and include it in the trip budget.

Tell your accommodation when you will arrive

Read the actual check-in hours, not just the headline listing. Ask the property in writing how you will get in if your flight is delayed. For self-check-in, save the access instructions offline and make sure you know which building entrance to use. If the property requires a deposit or identification beforehand, arrange that through its official booking channel.

Make a small arrival note

• Flight number and airport terminal, if known.
• Accommodation name, street address and direct contact.
• Primary transfer route and a fallback route.
• Payment method accepted by the fallback operator.
• Instructions for anyone meeting you.

Keep the note available without mobile data. A screenshot of a map is helpful, but an offline map with the address pinned is easier to use if you must change route.

If the flight is delayed

Notify the accommodation and transfer provider using the contact method in the confirmation. Do not assume a driver will monitor the flight or wait indefinitely. Check any waiting-time and no-show terms. If a transfer becomes unusable, keep the provider’s messages and receipts before buying a replacement.

For a family arrival, agree on a simple meeting point inside the terminal and keep essential medication, a charger and one change of clothes in hand luggage. The goal is a calm route from the aircraft to the room, even if the original plan changes.
